Support Brailsford Solar Park

Clean energy, powered with purpose

The cost of living crisis, which has seen the UK population faced with soaring energy prices, and the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, has raised concerns surrounding our energy security, making it more vital than ever to ensure communities have access to locally sourced, clean, green, and reliable energy production. Achieving true energy independence is essential to protecting the UK’s economic stability and national resilience.

By expanding the UK’s domestic energy generation, we can reduce exposure to global market volatility, ensuring that Britain’s energy future is determined by Britain. Investing in homegrown, renewable power not only supports the transition to a low-carbon economy but also safeguards the nation against geopolitical pressures and uncertainty.

British Solar Renewables is proposing to develop a Solar Park on an area of land located off Main Road, Brailsford, Ashbourne, DE6 3DA.

The proposed solar park will generate enough clean, renewable energy to power around 16,060 homes every year, helping to save approximately 22,396 tonnes of CO₂ annually.

This project will play an important role in boosting renewable energy generation in Derbyshire, improving energy security, and supporting both local and national targets to reduce carbon emissions. It will make a significant contribution towards the Council’s goal of a cleaner, more sustainable energy future, while also supporting the UK’s national renewable energy and carbon reduction targets.

You may wish to mention the following benefits that Brailsford Solar Park would deliver the following benefits:

  • Contribute towards national energy independence by expanding British energy production capabilities, safeguarding the nation against geopolitical pressures by reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels.

  • Generates business rates for Derbyshire Dales District Council, creating extra revenue to support council-run community services in the local area.

  • Assisting Derbyshire Dales District Council in tackling its declared Climate Emergency and helping to achieve its net zero targets.

  • Provide a minimum biodiversity net gain of 60%, exceeding the 10% minimum target outlined in the Environment Act 2021. This will be achieved through measures such as planting new hedgerows and establishing wildflower meadows and animal habitats.

  • It will be fully decommissioned after its 40-year lifespan, with all infrastructure removed and the land returned to agricultural use.

  • Provide a secure and reliable supply of clean electricity to help meet the Government’s targets of net zero carbon emissions.

  • Given that the site is temporary, and intensive farming can be harmful to soil quality, this site will provide valuable fallow years from farming to allow the land to recover naturally, improving soil quality and leaving it in better condition for future agricultural use.

  • Sheep grazing is being actively considered to allow continued agricultural use and support ecological maintenance of the solar park.
